On Sept. 16, 1896, just north of Waco, Texas, two Katy 4-4-0 Locomotives were crashed into each other each hurtling toward the other at sixty miles an hour in one of the most unusual publicity stunts of all time. an estimated 40,000 to 50,000 spectators showed up to watch this event and in the aftermath of the crash a number were killed or seriously injured. A remarkable bit of MK&T Railroad history.
