Off the Beaten Trail
William Ed. Syers
Texian Press
1976
6th printing, copyright 1971
The result of over 7 years and nearly 100,000 miles of Texas exploration in search of the story behind Texas heritage. The individual pieces first appeared as a feature column in many of Texas' major newspapers, then subsequently rewritten in three softcover volumes that went through seven printings before this single-volume revision was produced. Each article is a brief but complete adventure into the little known of our state's history and lore, written by the the author who has been called the best Texas story teller.
Syers is convinced that we live too fast a pace and are too forgetful of our colorful Texas heritage. Off the Beaten Trail is his many faceted way of saying just that.
