The Christian Agnostic
Leslie D. Weatherhead
Festival Books, Abingdon Press. Third Printing, 1983
Dr. Weatherhead's belief that the theological demands of Christianity are barriers to an honest Christian participation by a great number of people led him to write this book. He affirms the certainties of the Christian faith but condemns the "load of theological lumber which weighs much official teaching."
"I am writing for the Christian agnostic, by which I mean a person who is immensely attracted by Christ and who seeks to show his spirit, to meet the challenges, and hardships, and sorrow of life in the light of that spirit, but who, though he is sure of many Christian truths, feels that he cannot honestly and conscientiously 'sign on the dotted line' that he believes certain theological ideas about what some branches of the Church dogmatize."
Traditionalists may be shocked, but the majority of Christians-in-the-making have applauded Dr. Weatherhead's strong and liberating stand.
Softcover, trade paperback, 368 pages, includes index. First published in 1965.
Very good. Mild opening crease along spine, spine a little sun-faded, else a clean, tight, bright and unmarked copy.
