Texas State Historical Association (2000)

Edited by Roy G. Barkley & Mark F. Odonitz

The Portable Handbook is a condensation of the award-winning New Handbook of Texas, which the Texas State Historical Association published in six volumes in 1996. This one-volume compendium features a comprehensive overview of Texas history from prehistory to the present, bringing together more historical information than can be found in any other single volume.  Its first section is a comprehensive overview of Texas history, from prehistory to the present. This compact history provides a background for the thousands of encyclopedia entries that follow, arranged in alphabetical order.

The handbook's hundreds of illustrations have been carefully selected from the state's best archives of images, and the book includes a complete index.

Hardcover in graphic dust jacket, 1072 pages, quarto (11 1/4" X 8 3/4")  Brand new, direct from publisher.
