Frontispiece, with tissue guard, xv, (1), 357 pp, (12) plates, octavo, green cloth boards with black graphic decoration on spine & front, gilt letters on spine and front, 12 plates. First edition, lacks the publication date on the title page, an indication that this copy is a very early printing of the first edition.
Good condition, spine slightly darkened, decoration, lettering and gilt lettering a little faded but legible, front board graphic and gilt is clear and bright, boards show slight age patina.. All edges a little worn, most pronounced at spine head which show some fraying and color loss. The front free end paper has two separate gifting inscriptions, dated 1904 and 1942. Page edges are a bit age darkened, slightly stained in one spot. Spine is shaken but holding securely. A single page (71) has a small chip off the fore edge, the chip is laid in. Overall a good, solid copy, square and flat with supple pages.
